Joint CSIR / CFTRI (Diamond Jubilee) – NAM S&T Centre Fellowship

The NAM S&T Centre [www.namstct.org] and the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore, India [www.cftri.com], a constituent Laboratory of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), India had initiated a Fellowship scheme, titled ‘Joint CSIR / CFTRI (Diamond Jubilee) – NAM S&T Centre Fellowship’ in the year 2010-11. The fellowship aims to provide opportunities to the researchers from the developing countries to affiliate themselves with CFTRI, Mysore to undertake training, upgrade their research skills and conduct joint research in various fields of Food Science & Technology.

The NAM S&T Centre invites applications for the Joint CSIR / CFTRI (Diamond Jubilee) – NAM S&T Centre Fellowship’ for the year 2012-13 (April 2012 to March 2013). Four (4) Fellowships are available in the year for a maximum duration of six months each and are awarded to only one scientist each from any given developing country on a strictly competitive basis based on the applicant’s academic and professional background, the proposed Plan of Work and mutual research interests of the applicant and CFTRI.

The Fellowship scheme provides attractive financial assistance, under which the CFTRI would provide free furnished single accommodation in Mysore, India and a subsistence allowance of US$300 (in equivalent Indian Rupees) per month to the selected scientists/researchers to cover incidentals and other day to day expenses during the tenure of the Fellowship. Other financial terms including the support for international airfare by the NAM S&T Centre would be communicated to the applicants separately.

Applications are invited for the Joint CSIR / CFTRI (Diamond Jubilee) – NAM S&T Fellowship in prescribed format. The Guidelines and a blank Application Form are attached. Completed applications duly recommended by the parent institutions of the applicants may be electronically submitted directly to the NAM S&T Centre (namstct@gmail.com).

The last date for submitting application for the Fellowships is 16th December 2011.

GUIDELINES AND APPLICATION FORM
 

Background

In pursuance of their objectives to promote South-South Cooperation in Science and Technology, and as a result of mutual consultations, the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) [www.namstct.org]  and the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore, India [www.cftri.com], a constituent Laboratory of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), India have agreed to continue with the Joint CSIR/CFTRI (Diamond Jubilee) - NAM S&T Centre Fellowship Scheme to provide opportunities to the scientists and researchers from the developing countries for working in the laboratories of CFTRI, Mysore, India in various fields of Food Science & Technology.
 

Objectives

The objectives of the Joint CSIR/CFTRI (Diamond Jubilee) - NAM S&T Centre Fellowship Programme are:

To provide opportunities to the scientists and researchers from the developing countries to work with senior researchers in CFTRI, Mysore, India for upgrading their research skills in the fields related to Food Science & Technology.

· To facilitate the scientists and researchers from the developing countries to undertake training or joint research projects at CFTRI
·
 

a)  To provide a mechanism to the scientists and researchers from the developing countries to use the equipment and facility of CFTRI for their own research activity on mutually agreed terms and conditions.

·

To facilitate exchange of information and contacts and create a network between the scientists and researchers from India and other developing countries.

Number of Fellowships

Up to Four (4) scientists and researchers from the developing countries will be sponsored each year by the NAM S&T Centre to work at CFTRI Mysore under the Joint Fellowship Scheme. They will be selected strictly on merit and competitive basis.

Duration of Fellowship          

The duration of Fellowship will be six months, which may be extended at the discretion of the CFTRI authorities with mutual agreement with the Fellows.

Eligibility

·

Researchers having academic qualification of at least M.Sc. or equivalent and engaged in research and development in Food Science and Technology. Candidates possessing doctoral degree would be preferred.

·

The upper age limit would be 40 years.

·

The Fellowship is open to scientists and researchers from any developing country. Only one scholar from each country will be considered each year for the Fellowship Award on a competitive basis and merit.

·

Researchers from India are not eligible to apply for the Fellowship.


Financial and Other Terms
·
 

CFTRI would provide free furnished single accommodation in Mysore and a subsistence allowance of US$300 (in equivalent Indian Rupees) per month to cover incidentals and other day to day expenses during the tenure of the Fellowship to the selected researchers sponsored by the NAM S&T Centre.

·
 

CFTRI would provide all possible facilities and access to various instruments and equipment in its constituent laboratories that may be required by the Fellows to implement their agreed upon research activity.

·

Other financial terms including the support for international airfare by the NAM S&T Centre would be separately communicated to the applicants.

·

The copy of the Health Insurance Coverage for the period of stay in India must be made available by the selected Fellows to the CFTRI before departure from their home countries.

·

The selected Fellows or their parent institutions / governments will be required to bear the following costs:


 

All expenses in the home country incidental to travel abroad, including expenditure for passport and visa, required medical examinations and vaccinations and miscellaneous expenses such as internal travel to/from the airport of departure in the home country.

Salary and other related allowances for the Fellows during the Fellowship period.

The NAM S&T Centre and CFTRI, Mysore, India will not assume any responsibility for the following expenditure in connection with the Fellowship of researcher:

Insurance, medical bills or hospitalisation fee.

Compensation in the event of death, disability or loss of personal belongings or compensation for damage caused by climatic or other conditions (natural and/or man-made).

Family cannot be accommodated in the accommodation provided to the Fellow during the tenure of Fellowship at CFTRI, Mysore, India.

Submission and Selection of Applications

Applications for the award of the Fellowship may be submitted in the prescribed format (attached) directly to the NAM S&T Centre, and not to CFTRI. Incomplete applications shall be rejected.

A proposal on the scientific work to be carried out at CFTRI must be attached with the application. To prepare the proposal the applicants may carefully study the material available on the website of CFTRI [www.cftri.com]. They may also get in touch with the CFTRI researchers on e-mail for consultation before finalizing the proposal.

After preliminary scrutiny by NAM S&T Centre and CFTRI, the applications will be forwarded to Head, HRD, CFTRI for consideration.

·

Four applicants will be selected each year on competitive basis. The main criteria of selection will be the professional details and the Plan of Work submitted by the applicants.

·

In matter of selection, the decision of CFTRI shall be the final.
